Residents of Purnama Flats in Bentong can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the source of a persistent foul odor that had plagued the area since last Thursday has been revealed. The smell originated from the body of a man who lived in a ground-floor unit of the building.

This distressing discovery took a tragic turn when it was revealed that the deceased individual, Kan Kok Chong, 64, had been accompanied by his son, who is classified as a person with disabilities (OKU). The son, who faces learning challenges, had spent four days alone with his father's lifeless body, bravely trying to cope with the heartbreaking situation.

During this unfortunate incident, the victim's wife was reportedly away from home, visiting another one of their children in Kuala Lumpur since the previous Wednesday, unaware of the unfolding tragedy.

M. Muniandy, a neighbor of the victim, shared the harrowing experience of detecting the foul odor since last Thursday, which grew increasingly unbearable until it reached a tipping point yesterday. Overwhelmed by curiosity and concern, he looked through the window and was shocked to come face-to-face with the lifeless body of Kan Kok Chong.

"I had last seen the victim's wife on Wednesday, so I peered through the window due to the repugnant smell. The sight of the victim's body left me in utter shock," M. Muniandy recalled.

Driven by a sense of urgency, he wasted no time and immediately alerted the authorities, ensuring that help arrived swiftly to address the distressing situation.

Assistant Director of Operations for the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, Ismail Abdul Ghani, affirmed the prompt response of the fire department upon receiving the report at 4:10 PM yesterday. Their primary objective was to safely recover the victim's body, providing closure to the unfortunate event.

Additionally, a team was deployed to conduct a thorough fire investigation as evidence of a fire at the location was discovered, deepening the mystery surrounding this somber incident.

As the community grapples with the heartbreaking news, it serves as a reminder of the importance of staying connected and vigilant, particularly during times when our neighbors may need a helping hand.
