Former Malaysian Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of Anwar Ibrahim's leadership in governing the country. Dr. Mahathir claims that since Anwar assumed the role of prime minister, Malaysia has been confronted with a multitude of issues that remain unresolved.
Dr. Mahathir asserts that the government is currently grappling with a "directionless" political situation, which he believes could lead to irreversible damage if left unaddressed. In an audio episode that was broadcasted, he questions the achievements made by Anwar during his six months in power.
Highlighting some key concerns, Dr. Mahathir points out the depreciation of the national currency, the persistent issue of inflation, and the failure to revitalize the economy. He challenges Anwar to demonstrate the successes achieved during his tenure as prime minister.
Furthermore, Dr. Mahathir claims to have received complaints from civil servants regarding a lack of work due to the absence of directives from ministers. According to his sources, ministers are failing to provide clear instructions, leaving civil servants idle and unproductive.
Responding to these criticisms, Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as the Finance Minister, presented a contrasting perspective. He revealed that Malaysia had recorded investments amounting to RM1.7 billion in the first half of the current year. Anwar further emphasized the country's impressive economic growth rate, surpassing that of Singapore, China, and Indonesia, reaching a remarkable 5.6%. Additionally, he highlighted the achievement of maintaining low monthly inflation at just 2.8%.
The contrasting viewpoints between Dr. Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim shed light on the ongoing debate surrounding the performance and effectiveness of the current government in addressing the nation's challenges.
