In a recent social media uproar, Malaysians are expressing their dissatisfaction with the National Sports Council (NSC) for apparent double standards in enforcing dress codes for foreign visitors.
The controversy erupted when one Twitter user shared a screenshot from the official NSC Instagram account, showing NSC's director-general, Abdul Rashid, meeting with guests, including two foreign nationals. The issue arose as both foreign guests were pictured wearing shorts with one of them wearing a tank top during the meeting at the government office.
The Twitter user criticized the two foreign guests for what he perceived as a lack of clothing etiquette, taking aim at the NSC and Malaysia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, for allegedly not upholding proper etiquette rules for foreign guests.
The post has garnered widespread attention, with many netizens expressing similar sentiments. They highlighted the irony of Malaysians being barred from government offices for improper clothing while foreign guests, seemingly faced no repercussions for the violation. Criticism was also directed towards the guests for not adhering to the expected dress code during an official visit.
The specific photo, initially shared by the Twitter user, has since been taken down, and the comment section is currently disabled although the Instagram post is still accessible.
