SEREMBAN: A Bangladeshi man who used someone else's passport to get the Covid-19 vaccine was sentenced to nine months in prison by the Seremban Magistrate's Court, today.

Magistrate Norzaliza Tesmin passed the sentence on accused Mizan Nur Rahman, 26, who pleaded guilty as soon as the two charges against him were read out.

The accused was sent to Jelebu Prison to serve his sentence.

According to the first charge, Mizan had deceived Muhammad Nur Ikhwan Hamzah to give the Covid-19 vaccine to the accused.

The offense was committed at the Vaccine Center (PPV) Institut Pengajian Tinggi (IPT) Mega at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Nilai here at 10 am on September 13.

Prosecution was made under Section 419 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum jail term of seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

For the second charge, the accused who worked as a cleaning worker at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital, here was found not to have any valid pass issued in accordance with the law to enter the country and was charged under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Act. Immigration 1959/63.

If convicted, the accused can be jailed for up to five years or fined not more than RM10,000 or both and can also be sentenced to a maximum of six lashes.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused who used another name Saddam Hossain had falsified the Covid-19 vaccine information using the passport identity of another individual named Helal while making an appointment at PPV IPT Mega USIM, Nilai.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Muhaimin Mohd. Azman.
