A six-year-old girl tragically passed away in an incident believed to involve abuse and neglect by her father in Bandar Tun Razak, last Saturday.
Cheras District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin stated that the incident occurred when the father left the girl alone in the room to buy food at 11:30 AM in the morning.
"However, upon returning at 2:30 in the afternoon, the victim was found unconscious and was rushed to Hospital Tunku Azizah, Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
"The victim was later confirmed deceased on the same day, with suspected signs of abuse and neglect by the guardian," he said in a statement today.
He added that the victim's body was sent to the Forensic Department of Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further investigation.
"So far, there have been no arrests. We have recorded the father's statement to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, concerning child neglect," he said.
