Gigi Coffee has recently opened its doors in a historic building in Taiping, Perak, adding a modern touch to a space rich with heritage. Located at No. 5, Jalan Kota, the café is housed in a former colonial-style teahouse, preserving the charm of its past while introducing a fresh coffee experience to the community.
The building, with its symmetrical façade, arched windows, and striking blue details, once belonged to Lian Thong Coffee Shop, a beloved eatery that served locals for 76 years. Established in 1948, Lian Thong was known for its comforting home-cooked meals, particularly its signature Mee Bomba flavorful dish of crisp-fried noodles topped with braised chicken, fishcakes, and shrimp. The shop closed its doors on 26 July last year, marking the end of an era.
Now, Gigi Coffee continues the legacy of this historic spot by offering a cozy setting with wooden furnishings and ample natural light. Open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM, the café welcomes visitors to enjoy a cup of coffee while soaking in the nostalgia of a place that has been part of Taiping's history for decades.
