GOPENG - A man that was found lying covered in blood on the side of the road near the Kopisan flyover here yesterday, is apparently an e-hailing driver, who was found in a in a weak condition near the Orang Asli cemetery of Kampung Sungai Kapur, Ulu Geruntum yesterday.
The 32-year-old man was found at 6.30am by members of the Gopeng Police Station who conducted a Crime Prevention Patrol in the area.
Kampar District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud said the victim was found by members of the public lying on the side of the road who then reported it to the police.
He said policemen who arrived at the scene to provide assistance found that the victim was the same man who was reported missing last Sunday.
"According to the victim's brother, after his brother received treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh, they checked into a hotel in Gopeng to rest before returning to Penang.
"However, the man went out early in the morning without his brother's knowledge and it was only realized after being contacted by the police," he said here today.
According to him, the man was sent to Kampar Hospital for further treatment before being referred to HRPB again.
He said, as a result of the incident, the man broke his right arm and suffered injuries to his body.
"As a result of the hospital's review, the man is a mental patient and has been receiving medical treatment for the past year at a hospital in Penang.
"A mysterious soft whisper urged the man to commit suicide which is why the man was acting in such a way," he said.
He added that based on the initial interview, the man claimed that he was hit by an unidentified vehicle but the police also did not receive a police report related to the accident.
Earlier, the discovery of a car near the Orang Asli village of Sungai Kapur, Ulu Geruntum last Sunday, raised a question mark because the vehicle was left unlocked.
Several personal items including identity cards, international passports and mobile phones suspected to belong to the car owner were also found in the vehicle.
