A 17-year-old boy has been apprehended in connection with the unsettling murder case that unfolded near Rungkup, Bagan Datuk. The victim's decaying body was discovered in a ditch within an oil palm plantation.
Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri of the Hilir Perak Police shed light on the latest development, revealing that the teenager, who happened to reside in the same neighborhood as the victim, was taken into custody in Hutan Melintang just a few days ago.
Details emerging from preliminary investigations, as reported by Utusan Malaysia, have painted a complex narrative. The victim, a 21-year-old male, and the suspect were seemingly friends, residing in close proximity to each other within the Teluk Intan residential area.
However, beneath the surface of their seemingly cordial relationship brewed a tempestuous undercurrent of jealousy. Basri unveiled a startling motive, stating, "The motive for the murder was due to the suspect's jealousy towards the victim, as it was alleged that the victim had been harassing his 20-year-old girlfriend."
The suspect's arrest wasn't the culmination of a routine procedure but rather a result of painstaking investigation. Upon intense questioning, the teenage suspect conceded to the heinous crime that occurred on August 20th. The chilling confession included the revelation that he had meticulously disposed of the victim's body in the very ditch where it was later uncovered.
As the legal process unfolds, the suspect now finds himself under remand for seven days. The case will be further probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
