A recent incident in Sungai Petani, Kedah, has sparked controversy after a customer expressed dissatisfaction over a hefty bill for a seemingly modest serving of 'chap fan', or economy rice. The frustrated customer took to Facebook on December 9th to voice his dismay, citing an RM18 charge for a meal consisting of white rice, pickled vegetables (acar), and a chicken drumstick.
In his Facebook post shared within the SP人 group, the customer highlighted his astonishment at the exorbitant price for the meal, stating, "This restaurant charges you whatever price they want when you ask for takeaway. A few days ago, I got one chicken drumstick and two types of dishes packed, and the lady boss charged me RM18," he said. "It's truly outrageous. I told the lady boss that it's too expensive, but she didn't respond. In KL, these dishes don't cost this much. Doing business like this means I won't come back again. "
In response to the uproar, the restaurant owner, Liang, stepped forward to provide clarification and his perspective on the matter. Speaking to China Press, Liang addressed the situation, expressing a willingness to rectify any overcharge. He invited the patron to the restaurant to resolve the issue and stated, "If it turned out that the patron had overpaid for the dinner, he would be happy to reimburse him the additional costs."
Liang also mentioned that during the lunchtime rush, the manager was preoccupied with handling payments and engaging with other customers, which might have led to a lack of communication regarding the alleged high price of the meal.
