Police announced today that they had received details about the acid attack on national football player Faisal Halim.
Datuk Hussein Omar, Selangor police chief, said in a statement that the attack took place today at a big shopping mall in Kota Damansara.
"The Petaling Jaya police were notified of the incident by members of the public via Malaysia Emergency Response Services (MERS) 999 that a national football player had been doused with a liquid thought to be acid.
"The football player has been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Petaling Jaya, and his condition is reported as stable," the official said.
Hussein requested anyone with information on the case to call the Petaling Jaya district police operations room at 03-7966 2222.
In a post on X, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh complained the attack on Faisal and all other athletes.
"There is no violence in sports. "I hope the police investigate the case right away," Yeoh stated.
Earlier reports suggested that Faisal had been the victim of an acid attack. Photos of the winger following the attack have gone viral.
