On an Air Asia flight from Taipei to KL, a Malaysian passenger was horrified by the state of the seats. Nearly every seat handle was hastily covered in yellow ducktapes, and it was clear that these handles were defective. Seeing that a big number of passengers in that flight were foreigners, he noted that he felt secondhand embarassment and questioned the quality of the airlines.
He took some images of the state of the seats and posted them on Facebook, where they rapidly attracted attention. Others who had previously travelled on the same airline have come forward and reported having had similar experiences.
Users who commented on the Facebook post advised others not to have unrealistic expectations and stated that it is simply the cost you incur when choosing low-cost flights. While others disagreed and said that affordability should not equate to low quality. A person who claimed to have worked on aircraft seats in the past stated that tapes are typically used as temporary marking to indicate that the defected items are due to be repaired. He also stated that these marked defects can usually be fixed in an hour or so.
Others shared similar notion and agreed that these tapes are just temporary measures which at times could look a bit hasty.
