A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Kampung Padang Tenggala, Temerloh, where the lifeless body of a 15-year-old disabled teenager was discovered in a room at his family's residence.
The teenager, identified as an autistic OKU, was reportedly found by his 17-year-old brother around 10:30 PM last Tuesday. The distressing scene prompted immediate action, as the family's grandmother was alerted about the situation, leading her to contact a relative to assess the victim's condition.
Upon arrival at the house, a 60-year-old family member detected a noxious odor, prompting a visit to the local police station to report the concerning development.
The report spurred an investigation, resulting in the tragic discovery of the teenager's body. Subsequent inquiries revealed that the victim, due to his aggressive behavior, had been kept in a room by his mother.
Tragically, the teenager resided in the house alongside his 44-year-old mother, an older brother, and a younger sibling, following the passing of their father last May. This significant loss seemingly disrupted the family's dynamics, leading to disorganization in their lives.
According to Pahang Chief of Police, Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, the mother reportedly grappled with emotional distress following her husband's demise, yet did not seek medical intervention.
As the investigation progresses, the case is currently treated as an unexpected death.
This sad event highlights the need for better mental health support and community help for families facing emotional distress and individuals with special needs. It shows why we must be more aware and supportive of vulnerable members in our communities.
