A man has been arrested in connection with a suspected road bullying incident that occurred at Km350.4 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Sungkai. The arrest was made yesterday by the Tapah Criminal Investigation Department, following reports and a viral video of the incident.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi stated that the incident was first brought to public attention through an edited video that circulated on TikTok. Although the video has since been taken down by the user, it captured footage of a silver car engaging in dangerous behavior on the expressway.
According to NST, the incident reportedly occurred on Thursday at 11:10 a.m. The 61-year-old victim filed a police report later that evening at 9:43 p.m.
According to the victim, he was driving his multi-purpose vehicle in the right lane heading towards Penang when a silver car abruptly approached from behind and cut in front of him. The victim honked and braked in response, but the suspect allegedly slowed down and stopped in the middle of the road.
"When the victim attempted to overtake, the suspect blocked his path and made several obscene gestures towards him," Naim explained in a statement.
Police arrested the suspect at 4:15 p.m. yesterday to assist in the investigation. Background checks revealed that the man has six prior criminal records, including drug-related offenses and other crimes.
The case is being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for dangerous driving and Section 509 of the Penal Code for gestures or words intended to insult the modesty of a person.
Superintendent Naim urged the public to remain calm and patient while driving. "We advise against any form of road rage or dangerous behavior and encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward," he said.
