The Chief Minister of Kedah, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md. Nor, has admitted that his outward calmness during the election campaign was only pretense. He revealed that he was actually grappling with the pressure and attacks from the opposing side after the Kedah State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 28th.
The Chief Director of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Election Affairs claimed that the orchestrated attacks by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership took a toll on his emotions. While appearing composed on the surface, he shared that he was, in fact, deeply affected and hurt by the barrage of criticism and challenges aimed at him and his government.
"After the dissolution of the Assembly, don't be fooled if I say that I didn't feel pressured by all the attacks directed towards me as the head of the government. I acted like I was cool to ensure that the PN candidates entrusted to me remain composed in facing this challenge," he stated.
"I absorbed all the attacks on myself to protect all the other comrades from being targeted. Some shots had to be taken at other candidates and some even went to other states," he continued.
The Chief Minister also claimed that there were internal struggles metaphorically described as "bleeding" as he faced the demands of the high-stakes campaign.
"All PH and BN leadership in Kedah and throughout the country have aimed their cannons at Kedah; they have chosen Kedah as the battlefield in the PRN warfare," he remarked.
Highlighting the challenges ahead, Muhammad Sanusi acknowledged the need for ongoing support from the people of the state. He currently faces various court cases and lawsuits worth hundreds of millions of ringgit.
To reassure the public, the Chief Minister announced that his administration would remain fair and just, extending the same treatment to both allies and opponents. "We wouldn't persecute anyone, including comrades from PH and BN, and would continue to act fairly."
