A dramatic scene unfolded during an Immigration Department operation at Ampang Point Shopping Centre yesterday, when a woman pretended to faint in a bid to avoid being detained.
The operation, codenamed Ops Kutip, was conducted by the Selangor Immigration Department in collaboration with the Port Klang branch. The operation began at 7:30 p.m. and involved 35 officers tasked with enforcing immigration laws in the area.
Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin revealed that some individuals attempted various tactics to evade arrest.
"During the operation, several foreigners acted aggressively towards our officers, while others made excuses or, in one case, pretended to faint to avoid detention," he said in a statement today.
The officers screened 141 individuals during the raid, resulting in the detention of 53 people aged between 14 and 65. Those detained included nationals from Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and several other countries, such as India, Nepal, the Philippines, Sweden, Tanzania, and Nigeria.
Among the detainees were:
14 Indonesians (three men and 11 women),
11 Afghans (eight men and three women),
Six Bangladeshis (four men and two women),
And others from Australia, Myanmar, Morocco, Somalia, and Pakistan.
The detainees are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering Malaysia without valid permits and Section 15(1)(c) for overstaying their visas.
Khairrul Aminus emphasized the departments commitment to combating immigration violations and ensuring that only those with proper documentation remain in the country. He warned that enforcement operations would continue to be carried out statewide.
