As the difference in currency between Malaysia and Singapore in quite significant, many Malaysians have always had the desire to work there.
One example is, let’s say they get a job that pays them 3000 Singaporean Dollars, that means that they would get around RM 9200 when converted to Malaysian currency.
Let, me guess, after seeing this you too suddenly have the desire to work there?
Well, if that’s the case or if you’ve always wanted to work there, you’re going to want to continue reading this article. Recently, a Malaysian citizen with the Twitter handle @BaqirNajh shared their experience working with a Singaporean company and his tweet went viral.
Here’s everything you need to know:
1. They make quick decisions
According to his tweet, this was the biggest lesson he learnt from his entire experience. Baqir said that while working with the company he had to process loans below 200k and approve it within 3 hours as the customers need to get the money the very same day.
2. Fast-paced culture
Well, this part made me super happy. Their longest meeting duration is 15 minutes only! During the meeting everyone is sharp, they don’t go off topic and any discussion must be done privately after the meeting.
How efficient is that?! It is so great. Shorter meetings = more time to complete my work and completing my work on time = no stress!
Baqir also shared his experience about how he overslept one afternoon and missed a meeting. He said that they began the meeting without him. They didn’t wait for him.
This is good, at least it teaches us punctuality and it isn’t rude for the people who came to the meeting on time. At lest they won't have to waste time waiting for you to wake up and join the meeting.
3. No work before 9 am or after 6 pm
Okay, Malaysians need to learn something from them. Working hours are between 9 am to 6 pm, if you have any requests or inquiries please do so during that time, not even a minute before or after!
Best part is, the weekend is fully yours, they won’t come bugging you with work.
4. No micromanaging
This is another thing most Malaysian bosses are guilty off! As Baqir said, trust your employee!
Baqir shared that he worked remotely from Malaysia and the Singaporean company did not micromanage him. They didn’t ask him what he was doing all the time, nor did he have to send in weekly reports about his duties. All that mattered is that he did his job.
5. Concerned employers
This is another point from Baqir’s tweet that surprised me. Apparently, his employer would always check in with him to see if he is overloaded with work and if he needed any help from the other staff.
Having an employer who shows concern about your workload and understand the important of balance is honestly like finding a needle in a haystack. But if you have an employer like this then you are one lucky person!
It is important to not overwork yourself as it can cause stress or fatigue which can lead to many different health conditions in the long run. A boss that understands that would know to always check in with his employees to make sure that they are okay physically and mentally.
