A heartwarming incident involving a police officer at the Bentong Police Station has gained widespread praise on social media after a photo of her cleaning a visibly distressed child went viral last Tuesday.
Corporal Siti Sarah Ariffin, 35, shared details of the incident, which occurred at 8:40 pm last Friday. The child was brought in by a man after the mother was detained in Cheras for a commercial crime and subsequently taken to Bentong Prison.
While on duty, Corporal Siti Sarah Ariffin was approached by the man, who revealed himself as an acquaintance of the child's mother. He explained that the child had been handed over to him and expressed his intention to surrender the child to the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).
Describing the child's condition as unkempt and believed to have autism, Siti Sarah expressed her sympathy, saying, "I feel sorry when I see his condition and imagine my own children at home... not even changing diapers for a few days."
The viral photo, uploaded on Facebook by Friends of PDRM, has garnered significant attention with 3,700 likes, 260 comments, and 67 shares. Netizens praised the compassionate act of Corporal Siti Sarah, who has been serving at the station for six years.
Siti Sarah detailed how she promptly cleaned and bathed the child, providing new clothes and disposable diapers purchased by Corporal Ahmad Fathi Abdillah. She also ensured the child was fed with food and drinks.
Unaware that the moment was captured in a photo, Siti Sarah shared her concern for the child's well-being. The child was later taken home by the man with the intention of handing over to JKM. Siti Sarah maintained regular contact with the man to inquire about the child's condition, expressing relief upon learning that the child had been safely handed over to JKM.
