Our favorite streaming service - Netflix is back at it again! Not long ago, Netflix has announced 7 Korean Netflix originals, and after "Kingdom", "Extracurricular", and "The School Nurse Files", the most anticipated webtoon adaptation "Sweet Home" is finally here!
#Instant Popularity
The reason why the Netflix original is so widely anticipated even before release is because it is adapted from a hugely popular webtoon that boasts over 1 billion views. It tells the story of a bullied loner who moved into a new apartment after the death of his family. Soon after, strange incidents started to occur in his new apartment where people turned into monsters based on their desires. He fights and survives with other residents while working to overcome the pessimism in society and grow to be an adult.
#A-class Crew
The live adaptation features a great selection of actors and actresses, with spotlights on Song Kang, Lee Do-hyun, Lee Jin-wook and Lee Si-young as the monster fighting dream team. The production crew is headed by director Lee Eung-Bok, best known for dramas like "Mr. SunShine", "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God", and "Descendants of the Sun".
#Adrenaline Packed Trailer
On the 19th of December, Netflix released a teaser trailer for "Sweet Home" in a first-person view. A ruined apartment building, bloody scenes, a dark atmosphere and eerie shrieks of monsters have left fans wanting for more!
The first-person view was a great idea to get people right into the action and feel they are part of the drama. Some fans have commented that it is like an "Escape Room" on steroids. The trailer ends with "the viewer" facing off against the main character and being charged towards. Many have said that "Sweet Home" might be even better than popular psychological thriller "Hell Is Other People".
#Monster Fighting Dream Team
Besides the teaser trailer, the movie posters for the main characters were also released. The bloody posters added on to the hype for the drama.
Song Kang stars as Cha Hyun-soo, a loner that was bullied in high school. After a car accident killed his family, he moved to an apartment building and decided to end his life. However, he finds the unthinkable happening in the apartment building,
Lee Do-Hyun is no stranger to the screen but no on expected another appearance after hit drama "18 Again" had just finished showing. This time, he stars as Lee Eun-Hyuk, the brains of the survivors, solving problems with his high IQ and calm demeanor.
Seasoned actor Lee Jin-Wook stars as Pyeon Sang-Wook, a "punisher" with a mysterious background whom is misunderstood as a gangster.
Seo Yi-Kyeong is a character that is absent in the webtoon but will debut in the live action adaptation. She is starred by Lee Si-Young and is a former firefighter that fights alongside the punisher.
"Sweet Home" moves away from the typical K-drama structure and lively presents the monsters from the webtoon on our screens. This could very well be Netflix's most anticipated and most loved live action adaptation. All 10 episodes are currently showing in 190 countries and regions so those with an appetite for blood and scares can sit through it in one go! "Sweet Home" is everything but sweet. Catch it now on Netflix for a great thriller experience!
