In a stern warning, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that he had instructed security officials to be on high alert for anyone who tried to sow the seeds of bigotry using racial and religious sentiments.
"These sentiments are going to be exploited by those who are desperate or who feel challenged, and the poor will be paid to stir up trouble," he stated in a press conference. "There will be absolutely no tolerance for any attempt to undermine national security, and the cabinet is united on this matter to ensure that the peace of all races is upheld," he continued.
Despite not specifically emphasising any issues, Pm Anwar Ibrahim statement seems to be hinting at a few recent matters involving racial and religious news such as the harassment suffered by the directors and talents of the controversial film Mentera Terbang as well as the proselytising accusations faced by the Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh over her Jom Ziarah programme that compels Youth to visit various places of worship for educational purposes.
