A factory worker in Pekan, Pahang was scammed into losing RM25,000 after becoming the target of an secondhand motorcycle auction scam on TikTok.
According to Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, the Police Chief of Pekan District, the victim, a man in his early 50s, expressed interest in purchasing an LC135 motorcycle that had been advertised at an astonishingly low price of RM1,500.

The motorcycle was promoted through a Tiktok account he encountered last Saturday. In his pursuit of the purchase, the victim engaged with the seller via WhatsApp.
"The victim was keen on acquiring the motorcycle and agreed to the proposed price before being instructed to make a payment," Superintendent Zaidi explained.
During the course of the transaction, the victim was deceived into completing six payment transactions through fund transfers, totaling RM25,000. His realization that he had fallen victim to a scam came when the suspect demanded an additional RM15,000 before delivering the motorcycle.
In response, the victim acted swiftly and reported the incident to the police.
Given this regrettable incident, Superintendent Zaidi recommends that the public approach online advertisements with caution, particularly when they promise exceptionally low prices. He encourages individuals to use the Check Scammers CCID application to verify phone numbers and bank accounts, thereby minimizing the likelihood of falling victim to scams.
