A doctor and his son were seriously injured after the Perodua Bezza they were riding in was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Kluang, yesterday evening. 

Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident happened at Jalan Persiaran Seri Impian Roundabout, at 4.10pm.

He said, Dr Agung Nugroho Darmawan, 40, an Indonesian national, was injured in the head, fractured ribs and internal parts of the body while his son, Said Hassan, 4, was seriously injured in the head.

"Agung Nugroho is currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) while his son was rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital, Johor Bahru from HEBHK Kluang. The driver of the SUV, an 18-year-old high school student with a valid driver's license, was not injured," he said.

Bahrin said that the initial investigation found that the SUV was coming from Bandar Kluang towards Taman Seri Impian. "When he arrived at the scene, the SUV entered the roundabout and suddenly the Perodua Bezza came out of the intersection on the left and was hit by the SUV," he said.

Bahrin said the case was investigated in accordance with Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.

Meanwhile, Operations Commander, who is also Senior Fire Officer II, Nurul Azroy Mohamad Yusof from Kluang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) said the doctor was pinned in the driver's seat and was removed using special equipment.

"His son was also found unconscious and removed from the vehicle by members of the public," he said.

In the meantime, a video from the dashboard of the car that recorded the moments before and during the incident, went viral on social media and received reactions from various parties.

In the 31-second video, the driver of the SUV was closely followed by another vehicle before accelerating his vehicle at the roundabout until hitting the Perodua Bezza.
