For many hardworking Malaysians, workplace injuries and health issues are an unfortunate reality. Whether its an accident on the job or an occupational illness that develops over time, seeking medical treatment should be a priority not a financial burden.
Previously, PERKESO (Social Security Organisation) contributors had to pay upfront for medical treatment, with costs ranging from RM150 to RM200 per visit. After that, they needed to submit claims and wait nearly a month for reimbursement. This system often discouraged workers from seeking timely treatment due to financial concerns.
However, in a major policy shift, PERKESO has scrapped the old system. Now, contributors can receive medical treatment at any of the 1,400 designated panel clinics across Malaysia without making any upfront payment. No forms, no long waits, just present your IC, and you're eligible for treatment.
According to Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, this initiative covers:
Workplace accidents: Injuries sustained while performing job-related tasks, such as falls at construction sites or incidents in factories.
Occupational diseases: Health conditions resulting from long-term work exposure, such as respiratory issues due to chemicals or chronic back pain from heavy lifting.
If your health issue is work-related and you're a PERKESO contributor, you can now walk into any panel clinic and receive the necessary medical attention completely free of charge.

Getting medical care under this new system is simple:
1. Visit any of the 1,400 PERKESO panel clinics.
2. Present your identification card (IC) at the clinics counter.
3. Receive treatment, no payment required.
Minister Sim emphasized that this streamlined approach removes financial and administrative barriers, allowing workers to focus on their health without added stress.
This initiative is more than just a policy change its a lifeline for thousands of Malaysian workers. The removal of upfront payments means:
Immediate access to treatment without financial delays.
Elimination of complex claim procedures, reducing administrative headaches.
More savings for workers, particularly those in low-income jobs.
By making healthcare more accessible, PERKESO is ensuring that workers can recover faster and return to work without the additional burden of medical bills. This is a significant step forward in prioritizing worker welfare in Malaysia.
