Since the lockdown, we are sadly not allowed to dine-in at restaurants anymore. But thanks to food delivery platforms, we get to easily order our favourite dish from our favourite restaurant delivered straight to our doorstep.
With the popularity of food delivery apps rising due to the pandemic, most of us assume that vendors from our favourite restaurant must be earning quite a lot, especially since you’re ordering almost every day!
Unfortunately, a recent Facebook post from a vendor sharing her frustration about only earning RM0.24 after working so hard tells us otherwise.
This vendor who sells satay posted on a Facebook group sharing how heartbroken they felt after seeing the receipt in the middle of the night.
The receipt states that the vendors revenue was actually RM 1460.01 but after deducting the 30% commission percentage that the food delivery platform takes, SST and some vague and ambiguous thing called Fees & Adjustments that took a whopping RM 939.13, they were left with only RM 0.24.
The post immediately caught the attention and sparked discussions among netizens.
Many other vendors who also went through the same thing started sharing their stories.
This vendor earned a total of RM 4111 but after all the deductions, they only received RM 173.53!
This vendor earned a total of RM1302.00 but after all the deductions, they even had to pay the delivery app RM 194.42!
After seeing all the posts, there was only one question on everyone’s mind: What are the costs within the vague and ambiguous fees and adjustments? So, some of the commentors suggested that the vendor check the last page of the receipt to see what exactly fees and adjustments entails.
Based on the screenshot, we can see that the vendor was charged RM 858.00 for a Premium Listing Fee and some data plan fee as well as a data analytics fee.
The Premium Listing fee is to ensure that the vendors store appears on the first page of the app so that it can increase the chances that the customers see them store which is why the fee is so expensive.
Turns out, the vendor may have accidentally enrolled to the premium listing fee which is what made their profit so little.
Based on the whole situation the main takeaway is to ensure that you properly read and understand the terms and conditions as well as ask about the price and full details of any services you wish to use. Take your time to find out everything you can about the rules and extra fees that you will get charged for any specific services before signing up with the app.
