Squid Game Won't Be Getting A New Season? Here's A Sad Reason Why The Director Decides To Put It On Hold:
As one of Netflix's biggest hits in 2021, Squid Game is quickly becoming a nationwide sensation and after seeing the ending of the first season which heavily hints at something much bigger, millions of fans are already growing impatient for their next continuation.
However, it seems like the creator of the show himself isn't too eager in starting a new season right away. According to Huang Dong-hyuk, the production of the series in its entirety has taken quite a toll on him mentally and physically and at present, he doesn't plan on repeating the process just quite yet.
Admitting that he has always been keen on doing things on his own, working on Squid Game was proven to be quite an exhausting and demanding process. “Writing (‘Squid Game’) was harder than normal for me as it was a series, not a film. It took me six months to write and rewrite the first two episodes.”
When asked about the sequel, this is all he had to say: “I don’t have well-developed plans for ‘Squid Game 2.’ It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”
Indeed, creating a masterpiece like Squid Game often requires sacrifices and unprecedented hard work that not many would be willing to partake in twice. Nonetheless, it doesn't mean that season 2 of Squid Game is entirely out of the picture. We just need to wait a little longer.
