Reports from Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau reveal that over 100 KFC outlets nationwide have temporarily closed as boycotts continue to persist for approximately six months. The data, sourced from Google Maps, underscores the significant impact of ongoing consumer action on the fast-food giant.
The nationwide boycott, initiated amidst the Israel-Palestine conflict in October 2023, has affected various international chains, including Starbucks, McDonald's, and KFC.
Nanyang Siang Pau's report indicates that more than 10% of KFC branches nationwide have suspended operations, with a total of 108 stores temporarily closed as of April 27. Kelantan emerges as the hardest-hit region, with nearly 80% or up to 21 branches shuttered.
KFC, a longstanding presence in Malaysia for over 50 years, boasts a network of more than 700 branches across the country.
