Malaysians who prefer having physical copies of their driving licenses and road tax stickers will soon have the option to obtain them, starting in 2025. Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook made the announcement during a parliamentary session in the Dewan Rakyat, clarifying that this option is being reintroduced to accommodate those who favor traditional formats.
"We will announce an initiative for those who still want to print their physical licenses. There may be a charge for printing the physical cards," Loke stated. However, he did not provide details regarding the fee structure for this service.
Despite reintroducing physical copies, Loke emphasized that the Ministry of Transport remains committed to its ongoing digitalization efforts under the Road Transport Department (JPJ). The MyJPJ app, which was launched two years ago, has been a cornerstone of this transformation. As of October 31, 2024, the app has facilitated over one million transactions, generating nearly RM121 million in revenue.
The MyJPJ app offers users digital alternatives to physical road tax stickers and driving licenses, streamlining processes and significantly reducing costs associated with printing. To further enhance user experience, a new notification feature will be added to the app, reminding users about road tax renewals.
This initiative follows the ministry's February 2023 move to eliminate mandatory physical road tax stickers for private vehicles, marking a significant step in modernizing transport services. While the option for physical copies will be available, the Ministry of Transport aims to encourage Malaysians to embrace digital solutions for their convenience and cost-effectiveness.
With this hybrid approach, the ministry seeks to balance innovation with inclusivity, ensuring that all Malaysians whether digitally savvy or not can access the services they need.
