A 31-year-old foreign man has been detained on suspicion of setting off firecrackers from a moving car on Jalan 2/3A Pusat Bandar Utara. The arrest followed the circulation of a video capturing the incident yesterday.
The suspect was apprehended at his employer's shop near the scene of the incident at around midnight. The police also seized a Proton Waja car believed to have been used during the event.
The District Police Chief of Sentul, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari, stated that the arrest was made after the police identified a video of the incident circulating around 8:30 pm. The investigation revealed that the incident likely occurred on the same day, and the video clearly depicted the dangerous act.

"Through police inquiries, it was found that the suspect works at a vegetable shop, and the car believed to be involved belongs to his employer. Further checks revealed that the suspect does not possess a valid driving license. Moreover, a thorough investigation found no prior criminal records for the suspect. The suspect is currently remanded for four days at the Sentul District Police Headquarters to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Sukarno mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 7 of the Explosives Act 1957, which pertains to the offense of causing an explosion with the intent to endanger life or property. If convicted, the suspect could face a seven-year prison term, a fine of RM10,000, or both.
