Two women in their 50s stood before the Sessions Court today, facing charges of armed robbery against a man involving RM300,000 in cash, an incident that occurred three weeks ago.
Zarina Sinin, 54, and Safiah Ibrahim, 59, both entered pleas of not guilty when the charges were read before Judge Wan Mohd. Norisham Wan Yaakob. The charges state that they, along with five others who remain at large, are accused of committing a group robbery armed with what appeared to be a gun and pepper spray against a 27-year-old male victim. They allegedly took RM300,000 in cash from him at 1 pm on March 15, 2024, at Taman Melawati.
The two accused were charged under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and whipping. During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Judge Amir Abdul Hamid proposed a bail of RM15,000 for each accused, with the additional condition of reporting to the police station and not interfering with prosecution witnesses.
However, Zarina's lawyer, Muhammad Fadhli M. Sutris, argued that the proposed bail amount was too high and requested a reduction to around RM5,000. Safiah, who a lawyer did not represent, appealed for a minimum bail, citing her lack of income and dependence on her children.
After considering the arguments from both sides, Judge Wan Mohd. Norisham set bail at RM7,000 for each accused, with the additional condition of reporting to the nearest police station twice a month. The case is scheduled for re-mention, document submission, and the appointment of a lawyer for Safiah on June 24.
Reports indicated that three women were arrested in connection with a robbery involving a gold transaction that resulted in a loss of RM300,000. According to Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd. Azam Ismail, the victim and his friend engaged in a gold bar transaction with two individuals at a shopping centre.
However, they were deceived, and one suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the victim's head while another sprayed pepper spray into his eyes before fleeing with the cash.
