“I am overwhelmed and proud that Allah replaced my sadness with the opportunity to help other patients with the donation of my blood plasma, ” Reza Huzairi Zainuddin, one of the COVID-19 recovered patients said, according to The Star.
As the first such donor in Malaysia, the 41-year-old shared his experience of being infected, quarantined, recovered and the whole process of the donation. He expressed that his blood plasma was found to be powerful, healthy, and most importantly, suitable as his blood plasma meets the requirements for facilitating the treatment of other COVID-19 patients.
It has been reported in a separate report by the New Straits Times that, he was proud and volunteer to join such program, as quoted, “I voluntarily agreed to be involved in the program because I felt it was part of my responsibility as a Malaysian to contribute in helping to combat the spread of the disease."
The requirements of donation too were mentioned in the report by The Star, the donor must be completely healthy, as in, free from any chronic illness and was not on any long-term medication. And that the Health Ministry would screen them before performing the donation to ensure that they were not suffering any other disease, such as Hepatitis C.
The kind-hearted donor, Reza Huzairi, also explained that he could only donate 500ml plasma from his blood any one time, considering his weight of 65kg. This 500ml is already enough to help several patients! He too further disclosed that he plans to donate again in 2 weeks with the doctor's agreement for him to do so.
The collected blood plasma would be used to build a serum that could be injected into the body of critically ill patients in order to fight the virus. For a better result, those patients who shared a similar blood type as his would achieve optimum effect.
Reza Huzairi encouraged more recovered COVID-19 patients to step forward and offer their blood plasma to help those suffering patients.
