A local Maybank customer recently encountered a startling revelation when they found her bank account balance reflecting an amount exceeding RM404 million.
Hafidzah Abdullah, Director and Co-Founder of the HR Malaysia Forum, shared her experience, acknowledging the unexpected situation. Despite the momentary shock, she stressed that the technical glitch didn't simplify her life; instead, it complicated matters significantly.

Expressing her surprise and gratitude for the unusual banking experience on her LinkedIn profile, Hafidzah clarified that the staggering balance was not a windfall or lottery win but attributed it to a system glitch.
Following the irregularity, Maybank swiftly blocked Hafidzah's account without any prior notice or communication. This action led her to visit the nearest Maybank branch to reactivate her account, causing significant inconvenience, particularly during salary payment days.
"The situation was far from humorous. For three days, I faced banking disruptions, with my personal account blocked, the company account rendered unusable, and checking Maybank accounts becoming part of my daily routine," she lamented.
Shaikh Munir Ahmad, Maybank's Executive Vice President, commented on Hafidzah's LinkedIn post, assuring her of a prompt resolution and requesting her to connect with the bank to address the issue.
Maybank has now successfully resolved the matter, ensuring no adverse impact on customer data.
