According to women, family, and community development minister Nancy Shukri, the welfare home depicted in recordings where a resident was assaulted by a woman believed to be a member of the center's staff is not registered with the social welfare department (JKM).
Nancy stated that this was based on department and police investigations into the private elderly care facility located at Taman Desa Aman in Padang Serai, Kedah.
"After the investigations are completed, we will order the welfare home to close.
"I urge those responsible with caring for the elderly to carry out their duties carefully. We must always remember that one day, we, too, will rely on others for care and protection," she remarked after attending today's Aidilfitri open house at the Kuching district office, according to Bernama.
Kulim police chief Azizul Khairi announced on Thursday that the owner and worker of the welfare home had been arrested to assist with their investigation.
The police had received a report of an incident in which a 70-year-old occupant of the residence was allegedly attacked with a stick.
"Four video clips from the event went popular on social media. The Kulim police headquarters initiated an investigation and detained a 44-year-old man who owns the welfare home.
"Police also arrested a 36-year-old woman who works as a helper at the centre," the officer stated.
