Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is set to launch a special MySawasdee Penang Edition train service connecting Butterworth to Hat Yai, Thailand, as a trial route from December 29 to January 5. This initiative aims to gauge user demand and feedback, potentially paving the way for more services to other key locations on the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) network.

The trial service offers a one-way fare of RM45 and will stop at several major stations, including Bukit Mertajam, Sungai Petani, Alor Setar, Arau, and Padang Besar.

The train departs Butterworth daily at 7.40 am, arriving in Hat Yai at approximately 12.05 pm (local time). For the return journey, the train leaves Hat Yai at 3 pm (local time) and arrives in Butterworth at 9.46 pm.

KTMB emphasized the benefits of this new route for residents of northern Peninsular Malaysia and Thai tourists, offering a seamless travel experience without the need to switch trains.

"This route is expected to bolster both domestic and international tourism, attracting more visitors from Hat Yai to Penang, a destination known for its rich cultural heritage and unique local cuisine," KTMB said in a statement.

The service also has the potential to stimulate the local economy by drawing more travelers to the towns and cities along the route, creating opportunities for businesses in these areas.

Tickets for the MySawasdee Penang Edition train will go on sale starting Monday, December 23, at 10 am. Travelers are encouraged to book their tickets early via the KTMB Mobile Application (KITS), kiosk machines, or the official KTMB website at www.ktmb.com.my.

For further inquiries, passengers can contact KTMBs customer service center at 03-9779 1200.

The MySawasdee Penang Edition trial service marks KTMB's commitment to enhancing travel connectivity between Malaysia and Thailand. By providing an efficient and comfortable train service, KTMB aims to make cross-border travel a more attractive option for both leisure and business travelers.
