A man was arrested just a day after allegedly breaking into a home in Taman Nesa, Skudai, and stealing an air conditioning unit, thanks to viral CCTV footage shared by the homeowner.
The two-minute, 20-second clip shows the suspect forcefully striking the gate multiple times until it opens. He then removes an air conditioning unit and brazenly returns moments later to take the outdoor component of the system.
According to NST, Johor Bahru Utara district police Chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh revealed that the police acted swiftly after receiving a report from the homeowner, a 40-year-old woman, at 12:18 pm on Friday
"Based on the information, a team from the Johor Bahru Utara Criminal Investigation Division apprehended the 32-year-old suspect at 2:30 pm the following day," Balveer Singh stated.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect has a prior criminal record, though a urine test confirmed he was not under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.
The suspect has been remanded for four days, from December 28 until December 31, as investigations proceed under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
The authorities have urged anyone with further information regarding the case to come forward to assist in the investigation.
