The Penang state government has responded to a viral video circulating on social media that claimed the presence of cracks on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge. State Infrastructure, Transport, and Digital Development Committee chairman, Zairil Khir Johari, refuted the claims, asserting that the video is outdated and not related to the Malaysian bridge.
After an inspection of the bridge alongside Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB), Zairil confirmed that there were no such issues with the structure. He emphasized that the video in question originally surfaced around 2014 from an overseas location.
In light of the misinformation, Zairil urged the public to refrain from sharing the video to prevent unnecessary panic. The 27-second clip that had gone viral earlier cautioned people about the alleged cracks in the bridge, but it has now been debunked as a baseless rumor.
