The eight-month-long mystery surrounding the disappearance of 33-year-old teacher Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi has finally been solved. Authorities have confirmed that the headless and handless body discovered in a drain last December is indeed that of the missing teacher.
Chronology of the Crime
December 26, 2023: Istiqomah was reported missing after she failed to return home. Her family, unable to reach her via phone, grew increasingly worried and reported her disappearance.
December 31, 2023: A gruesome discovery was made when a decapitated and dismembered female body was found in a trash bin within a drain in Kampung Tanjung Rimau, Pulau Sebang, Melaka. The body was discovered by the roadside, approximately 100 meters from an abandoned house. The victim was missing her head, hands, and feet.
January 6, 2024: The Alor Gajah District Police confirmed their belief that the victim's body parts had been severed, but none of the missing parts were found at the scene.
August 2, 2024: A DNA sample was collected from Istiqomahs mother by the DNA Data Bank Division (D13) of Bukit Amans Criminal Investigation Department, in a bid to identify the remains.
August 12, 2024: The Alor Gajah District Police officially confirmed that the body found in December was that of Istiqomah, based on the matching DNA results from her mother. In connection with the crime, a married couple, aged 36 and 37, was arrested in Chemor, Perak. The male suspect, who is Istiqomahs former lover, had his remand extended by seven days starting August 13, following a magistrate's order. It is reported that the suspect and Istiqomah had a history of knowing each other from their time studying at the same institution, and they remained in contact regarding Forex investments.
The investigation is ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
