A tragic incident unfolded at a local college in Lahad Datu, Sabah as a male student's dead body was discovered, reportedly due to physical assault, on Friday morning.
The victim, a 17-year-old residing in the college dormitories, was found unconscious around 6:50 AM. Medical personnel, upon arrival, confirmed the unfortunate demise.
Lahad Datu's District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Rohan Shah Ahmad, revealed that the college director had lodged a police report concerning the deceased student.
In swift response, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division at the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters promptly arrived at the scene.
"Upon investigation, it was determined that the incident occurred within the male dormitory premises, where the victim's lifeless body was discovered," Rohan stated in an official statement on Friday.
Further examination of the victim's body uncovered signs of injuries and bruises on various body parts, indicating a dispute among dormitory residents as the cause.
Following this revelation, the victim's body underwent a thorough post-mortem examination at the Forensic Department of Lahad Datu Hospital to ascertain the cause of death.
In conjunction with ongoing investigations, authorities have detained 13 male students aged 16 to 19, and identified seven witnesses to aid the inquiry.
Additionally, authorities seized a mobile phone charger believed to be linked to the incident.
