According to Sin Chew Daily, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) Licensing officers, led by environmental health officer M. Bavani mentioned that MBPP is not enforcing the time limit for every salons' customers. Meanwhile, senior citizens who wished to get a haircut must make a reservation while the salons do not have to empty the store.
M. Bavani revealed that her team went to inspect the salons in the downtown areas, to check on them on the first day of resuming business. She disclosed in the interview that Penang island has about 500 registered salons. Starting from tomorrow, the authority will be divided into 3 teams to inspect these salons. This is to make sure that business owners follow the Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) strictly.

She understood that some customers, who wished to dye or perm, would spend hours in the salon, hence, the authority does not limit the time of serving. She further explained that the senior citizens are restricted from staying in the store for too long by the government, as they are considered as the high-risk group, therefore, they MUST make a reservation before visiting the salons.
"Business owners and the public can browse the official website and Facebook of Penang City Hall to look up the SOP," she disclosed.
However, in a separate by Sin Chew Daily reported that Penang's Mayor, Dato' Ar. Yew Tung Seang clarified that the Penang government will be following the SOPs set by the Federal government. This means that every customer will ONLY have an hour receiving the service by salons.
