Model Siew Pui Yi has taken legal action against her former business partner, referred to as "Mentos," accusing him of cheating her out of nearly RM4.3 million.
The 29-year-old director of her company, according to Ms. Puiyi, was entrusted with settling the firm's tax arrears with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) last year. However, she alleges that he disappeared without paying the dues.
Ms. Puiyi claims to have discovered that funds from her company, PY Empire Sdn Bhd, had been misappropriated by Mentos since June 2022. Despite initially appearing trustworthy when introduced to her by a mutual friend in 2019, he managed the company's human resources matters and made investments using its funds. However, according to Ms. Puiyi, he failed to fulfill his responsibilities, resulting in significant losses for the company.
At a press conference held at Green Hall as reported by Free Malaysia Today, Ms. Puiyi expressed her disappointment and frustration over the situation. She emphasized her trust in Mentos and her reliance on him to settle the income tax arrears as instructed. However, his alleged actions have had severe consequences, leading to financial losses for Ms. Puiyi and her company.
Ms. Puiyi's lawyer, K Mahendran, revealed that a report was lodged regarding the matter last October, and Ms. Puiyi had provided statements to the police on multiple occasions. Despite this, there has been no progress in terms of prosecution or updates on the case.
In response to the lack of action from law enforcement, Ms. Puiyi has taken matters into her own hands by filing a civil suit at the High Court. The lawsuit aims to reclaim the RM4.3 million, along with additional costs and damages deemed appropriate by the court.
