In a bizarre incident, a 31-year-old homeless woman was apprehended by authorities in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, for masquerading as a ghost to extort money from unsuspecting drivers. The woman, who had been evading law enforcement since a video of her actions went viral on July 27, 2024, was finally brought to justice.
The video, which sparked widespread fear among drivers, showed the woman ambushing vehicles while dressed in a ghostly disguise. This is not the first time the woman has run afoul of the law, as she has a prior criminal record under Section 448 of the Penal Code, for which she was fined RM1,000 in 2018.
Further investigation revealed that the woman has a history of mental health issues, having been treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in 2022 and 2023 for depression and other health concerns. In light of her arrest, she has been referred to HSI for further mental health evaluation.
This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of addressing mental health issues. It is crucial that individuals struggling with mental health concerns receive appropriate treatment and support to prevent such incidents from occurring. We can only hope that this woman receives the care she needs to overcome her challenges and reintegrate into society.
