KUALA LUMPUR - A boy was seriously injured when he was stabbed by a senior citizen who is suspected of having mental problems at the flat playground, Jalan Loke Yew, near here yesterday.
The four-year-old victim was stabbed in the stomach and thigh by the suspect who is also his neighbour, however his condition was reported to be stable.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Noor Delhan Yahaya said members on duty at the District Control Center received information related to the incident at 5.39 pm.
“Acting on the information received, a police team went to the location and found that the injured victim was stabbed in the abdomen and thigh and was taken by his family to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) for further treatment.
“Investigations at the scene found that the individual involved hiding in one of the flat units.
"The results of the inspection carried out by the police was a success and the individual who is in his 80s and also boy’s neighbour was," he said in a statement today.
According to him, the motive of the incident is still under investigation and a review found that the suspect had a record of psychiatric treatment.
He said an investigation paper was opened under Section 326 of the Penal Code (PC) to intentionally cause serious injury by using weapons or other dangerous objects.
"Investigations are underway and then the investigation paper will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office for further action," he said.
