Mukbang gone really, really wrong?
A Chinese food blogger who cooked and consumed a great white shark in an online video posted on Douyin (Chinese TikTok) and Kuaishou has been penalised RM78k. The blogger, who uses the alias Tizi, was recognised by authorities as Jin after her video received widespread backlash.
According to some reports, the influencer's channel, which has garnered 7.8 million followers has since been taken down. The officials said that the video has violated the "Wild Animal Protection Law" of the People's Republic of China. In the country, illegal possession of a great white shark could lead to 5-10 years in prison.
The influencer claimed that she had bought the shark through verified channels and paid 7,700 yuan (RM 4,852) for it. She also claimed that she was under the impression that she was buying a different species of shark and was not aware that it was endangered. However, the authorities found her statements to be inconsistent with the evidences they've found.

We must not cross boundaries in the name of content, especially when it involves something as delicate and fragile as wildlife, that is now facing great extinction due to our own greed. There's a limit to everything, no?
