One of Malaysia's wealthiest businessmen and an inspirational self-made billionaire, Teh Hong Piow has passed away peacefully today (12th December 2022) at the age of 92.
Not everyone can say they founded a bank at the age of 35, and Teh Hong Piow certainly earned the bragging rights for that. Throughout his career, he had achieved more than 40 accolades, one of which being Greatest Malaysian Banker of All Time by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation.
Up until his demise, he was one of three individuals in Malaysia who are permitted to hold a stake of more than 10% in a domestic financial institution. His net worth was estimated by Bloomberg to be US$7.14 billion, making him the 311rd richest person in the world and the 4th richest in Malaysia, at the time of writing.
He left behind four children.
