Rock band The 1975 is currently grappling with the aftermath of a recent controversy at the 10th anniversary of the Good Vibes Festival 2023. The festival's organizer, Future Sound Asia (FSA), has issued a stern seven-day notice demanding the band to pay a staggering sum of over RM12.3 million in damages.
The legal move comes as a significant development following the controversy that surrounded The 1975's performance at the highly anticipated event. The band has been served with a letter of claim, dated August 7th, 2023, outlining the demand for both admission of liability and the payment of £2,099,154.54 (equivalent to RM12,347,967.91) within the seven-day period.
David Mathew, the legal counsel representing Future Sound Asia from Steven Thiru & Sudhar Partnership, shed light on the legal action. Mathew confirmed that the Letter of Claim has been meticulously crafted in adherence to the English Practice Direction Pre-Action Conduct and Protocol, which falls under the ambit of the English Civil Procedure Rules.
The controversy that prompted this legal course of action is yet to be detailed. However, the demand for a substantial amount in damages signals that the matter must be of considerable consequence.
