In a tragic incident that unfolded at approximately 1:54 AM on 28th February 2024, a motorcyclist sustained severe injuries in Kota Bharu after allegedly running a red traffic light and colliding with an SUV.
Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud, the Chief of the Kota Bharu District Police, provided details of the incident, which occurred at the Paya Rambai traffic light intersection. The collision involved two motorcycles and an SUV.
According to CCTV footage, the 26-year-old female driver of a Proton X50 was heading from the Berek 12 direction towards Lundang when her SUV was unexpectedly struck from the right by two motorcycles. These motorcycles were believed to be ridden by two 17-year-old teenagers who, as shown in the footage, ran the red light at the intersection, approaching from the Wisma Persekutuan direction towards Demit.
As a result of the collision, both motorcycle riders fell, with one of them can be seen flying and flipping over while up in the air before landing on the ground. Tragically, one of them suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for further treatment. The other rider sustained leg injuries and is currently receiving outpatient care.

The driver of the Proton X50 reportedly did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
