The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kedah intercepted a Honda City sedan on Monday evening for a rather unusual traffic violation. The incident occurred at 6:40 PM on the North-South Expressway, where officers stopped the vehicle displaying a license plate with the number W4NI, which did not conform to official specifications.
According to a statement shared on JPJ Kedah's Facebook page, the driver of the vehicle explained that the unique plate was a personalized gift from her husband, intended to reflect her name. However, the modification ran afoul of the Motor Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) Rules 1959.
"Under Rule 6(7) of the Motor Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) Rules 1959, if found guilty, the offender can be fined up to RM300," JPJ Kedah highlighted.
As a result, the enforcement team issued a P22 notice and an inspection instruction notice under Section 61(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. These measures are part of JPJ's continuous efforts to ensure compliance with road regulations.
JPJ Kedah emphasized that no exceptions would be made for such violations, regardless of the reasons or motives behind them. "Action will be taken against anyone who disregards traffic rules," the department reminded in its statement, urging motorists to abide by legal requirements to avoid penalties.
