A man was apprehended by the authorities for allegedly conspiring with three robbers to stage a break-in at his own residence in Taman Hijau, Karak. The incident, which occurred yesterday, was part of an elaborate ploy aimed at making a false insurance claim. The Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, shed light on the unfolding investigation after receiving a report from the victim, who turned out to be the wife of the purported mastermind behind the robbery.
The peculiar case emerged when the Bentong District Police received a report at 3.20 PM from the victim. According to Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, the 42-year-old victim recounted a harrowing encounter with three masked men, who menacingly wielded a machete and proceeded to ransack their house.
Following the orchestrated break-in, the three unknown assailants made a swift getaway in a white Perodua Alza vehicle that was conveniently parked in front of the house. In their wake, they made off with various pieces of jewelry, collectively valued at RM16,000. The well-organized escape raised suspicions among law enforcement authorities, triggering an intensive investigation into the incident.
A breakthrough in the investigation came after police acted on crucial information, received approximately 12 hours after the initial report. Coordinating their efforts, officers from the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD) and Nilai IPD succeeded in arresting two local men aged 33, along with a foreign man aged 24, in connection with the robbery.
A deeper probe into the backgrounds of the arrested suspects unveiled disturbing revelations. Both local suspects were found to have prior criminal records linked to previous robbery cases, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
The most startling revelation came to light through Superintendent Zaiham's disclosures. The investigation pointed to the victim's husband, a 47-year-old local man, as the suspected mastermind orchestrating the entire robbery scheme. Authorities believe that his ulterior motive was to fabricate an insurance claim under false pretenses.
In light of the evidence, the victim's husband, along with the three apprehended suspects, now faces grave legal consequences. They have been detained and remanded for seven days to facilitate the investigation, as the case is being processed under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which pertains to robbery committed by an armed group.
If found guilty, those involved in the conspiracy may be subject to severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to 20 years and caning. The gravity of their actions underscores the seriousness of attempting to deceive insurance companies through illegal and deceptive means.
As the investigation unfolds, the shocking details surrounding this attempted insurance fraud emphasize the need for a robust legal system to deter such criminal activities and protect the integrity of insurance claims.
