The election aftermath in the Sungai Kandis constituency has taken an unexpected turn as Pakatan Harapan's (PH) election machinery lodged a police report today over suspicions of an irregular vote count during the state election held two days ago.
The incident centers around a discrepancy in the tallying process, involving the number of ballot papers returned and unreturned, which has led to doubts about the integrity of the outcome. The Chief Polling Officer (CPO) had informed the Counting Agent (CA) that an unusually high number of ballot papers had been returned, attributing it to protesting voters who had supposedly taken the ballot papers home. However, PH representatives are not satisfied with this explanation.

The representative of the election machinery, Shaari Abdul Malik, took action on behalf of PH's candidate for the Sungai Kandis seat, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni. The police report was lodged at the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters at 3:56 pm.
Shaari asserted that doubts had arisen surrounding the counting process at various voting centers within the constituency. Of particular concern was the discrepancy in the number of unreturned ballot papers.
"Despite the 167-vote margin of loss, substantial doubt persists due to the fact that all the votes that were claimed to be accounted for were not actually deposited in the ballot box. In response, we have filed a police report and are preparing to file a petition for further action," Shaari conveyed during a press conference yesterday.
Shah Alam District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, confirmed that the report had been received and would be referred to the Election Commission for further investigation and appropriate action.
The incident comes amidst discussions within the PH-Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance regarding the potential filing of election petitions to challenge the results of certain seats secured by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the recent Selangor polls held on August 12th.
Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor PH chairman, highlighted that seats with narrow winning margins such as Sungai Kandis, Taman Medan, Gombak Setia, and Dengkil were being considered for election petitions. Various aspects will be taken into account while evaluating the feasibility of these petitions.
