Instant noodles have been the undeniable champion for supper or as the choice of dried food for storage. Thanks to its long expiry dates, multitude of flavors and ease of preparation, it has also slowly seeped into our diets as breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Due to health concerns, it's not suggested to consume instant noodles as one of our main meals, but we know sometimes we just can't help it, whether it's because you're rushing to work, or because you're a little tight on budget at the end of the month. So, if instant noodles are the only choice, at least make sure you do these 5 things to make your meal a little "healthier"!
#1 Rinse It With Hot Water At Least Once
Many of the instant noodle brands are fried noodles. So, to get rid of the layer of oil and antioxidants, "cook" the noodles in hot water once and drain it. Then, add in hot water for the second time before putting in the flavoring and ingredients. This will at least reduce your body's intake of unhealthy oil and antioxidants.
#2 Don't Use The Whole Packet Of Flavoring
Yes, the flavoring is the essence of instant noodles, but it is also rich in sodium. Consuming an entire packet of instant noodle flavoring will very likely cause you to exceed your daily recommended amount of sodium. If possible, use only half a packet of the flavoring and try to make it up by using other natural ingredients like onions and garlic.
#3 Don't Finish The Soup
Continued from the previous point, the lesser soup you drink, the lesser of the flavoring you're consuming, which means lesser sodium. Let's just stick to the things that'll fill your stomach.
#4 Add Other Ingredients
If the situation allows, you can make it a whole meal by adding in other easy to prepare ingredients. Eggs are the obvious choice as they can just be added into the noodles while cooking. You can consider throwing in some vegetables or slices of meat for a balanced diet too.
#5 Don't Choose Fried Noodles
These days, there are actually many options out there for instant noodles. Aside from the common fried noodles, there are also non-friend options, which uses dry air to keep them preserved. Keep that in mind the next time you're stocking up!
Instant noodles are a quick and cheap fix for food, but try to have them as little as possible!
