This is HUGE!
After the consequences caused by years of political squabbling and the coronavirus outbreak, Amazon will invest US$6 billion in Malaysia to build data centres, bringing a "encouraging" boost to the new government's efforts to entice additional international investors.
According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia's stable political system and its well-defined policies are the significant cause that Amazon Web Services (AWS) chose the nation as a destination for investment.
The AWS investment, which is expected to be valued RM25.5 billion by 2037, according to him, who is also the Minister of Finance, had a significant influence on the nation since it boosted the trust of foreign investors.
The data centres will house cloud services and apps that are headquartered in Malaysia, giving developers, start-ups, businesses, the government, and non-profit organisations more bandwidth to serve consumers throughout the nation.
As stated by the prime minister, talks with AWS began in December of last year. AWS delayed to begin those talks because it wanted to make sure there was a solid political leadership team in place that would provide clear rules and directives.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz also revealed that AWS is looking to hire Malaysians for 80% of its workforce.
