JOHOR BAHRU - An elderly man was sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here for giving a bribe of RM600 to a government employee in an incident on July 15 last year.
The accused, Tan Yen Keek, 65, was sentenced after pleading guilty before Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail.
Based on the charge sheet, he who is also a gas shop owner tried to bribe a member of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).
The accused was alleged to have committed the act as an inducement for the officer not to make further inspections on his premises which carried out the business activities of wholesalers and distributors of cooking gas (LPG).
He was alleged to have committed the act at his premises in the Pulai Light Industrial Area, here at 11.30am, on July 15 last year.
The court then sentenced the accused to one day in jail and a fine of RM10,000, failing which he would be sentenced to three months in jail. The accused paid the fine.
